Accreditations and Licenses for Cord Banking

As the owner/operator of its laboratory, CBR is able to control the quality of processes to ensure we meet or exceed industry and regulatory standards.

CBR has been granted the following accreditations and licenses:

    AABB Certificate

    AABB (formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks) is committed to improving health by developing and delivering standards, accreditation, and educational programs that focus on optimizing patient and donor care and safety.

  • FDA Regulation

    The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for helping the public get accurate, science-based information, and ensuring that products are honestly, accurately, and informatively represented to the public.

  • Maryland Tissue Bank Permit

    The Maryland Office of Health Care Quality protects public and individual health by requiring that all tissue banks operating or providing services in Maryland operate under qualified supervision, reliable procedures, and appropriate quality assurance.

  • CLIA

    The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) program is regulated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and ensures the quality of laboratory testing in the United States.

  • New York State Department of Health:
    Cord Blood and Cord Tissue*

    The State of New York has developed and implemented regulations to ensure the safe and ethical collection, processing, storage, and distribution of donated blood and tissue for clinical use. Through a comprehensive on-site survey process, facilities are assessed for acceptable standards of practice.

    * Please note: CBR's activities for New York State residents are limited to collection of umbilical cord tissue and long-term storage of umbilical cord-derived stem cells. CBR's possession of a New York State license for such collection and long-term storage does not indicate approval or endorsement of possible future uses or future suitability of these cells.

  • New Jersey State License Blood Bank

    The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services' Clinical Laboratory Improvement Service (CLIS) regulates blood banks and clinical laboratories through a proficiency testing program and regular inspections.

  • Illinois Department of Health

    The State of Illinois Department of Health requires that blood and tissue banks meet state requirements regarding infectious diseases testing.

  • State of California, Biologics License

    The State of California has legally adopted the AABB standards. Banks must meet standards that are equivalent to AABB standards and other minimum quality requirements.

  • ISO 9001:2008 Certification

    ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world's largest developer and publisher of International Standards. ISO certification is voluntary and is the global business standard for quality.
